Cherubini Bridges and Structures, a member of the Cherubini Group of Companies, is looking for a Yard Operations Worker to join our team in Dartmouth, NS!

The Yard Worker will join our outdoor crew in playing a critical role in supporting the flow of materials and products through the production process.

Summary

This position requires a motivated individual to move steel and fabricated components around the yard using equipment like forklifts, cranes, or hoists. Under the direction of the Yard Foreman, the Yard Operations Worker organizes materials and finished products to ensure easy access for the production team while maintaining an orderly yard.

The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience with rigging, overhead and/or gantry crane operation, and forklift.

Responsibilities will include:

• Active participation in Cherubini's safety program
• Willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions
• Load, unload, move, and store steel materials and fabricated components in the yard using forklifts, cranes, or other equipment
• Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
• Under the direction of the Yard Foreman, organize and maintain yard inventory to ensure materials are accessible and accounted for
• Assist with the preparation of material for shipment by bundling, strapping, or staging loads according to delivery requirements
• Assist with loading and unloading trucks carrying raw materials or finished products
• Securely and safely fasten loads, steel pieces, and other materials to and from the fabrication shop as needed
• Maintain a clean and organized yard

Requirements

• Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
• Previous crane, rigging, and forklift experience an asset
• Willing to work night shift as requested (vacation coverage, parental leave coverage, etc.)
• Knowledge of steel shapes and profiles considered an asset
• Previous experience as a labourer, specifically in the steel industry, preferred
• Experience with hand tools such as grinders, drills, hammers, wrenches, and mallets
• Ability to readily determine the correct tools and equipment needed to do a job
• Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule
• Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50lbs), perform physical labour, and walk and stand for long periods of time.
